It's been raining non-stop for the last three days around here and I have to admit that I'm selfishly happy about it (we really don't need sooo much rain). Whenever we get bad weather honeybunch can't go ride his horseys which means that I get to have him help me with my projects. He really enjoys woodworking and has a workshop full of tools that he rarely gets to use - no time between riding, teaching and traveling to horse shows. I've had a hard time finding good quality, simple, solid wood, reasonably priced picture frames, so he's making me some :)

favorite flower
This is my favorite flower at the moment. No green thumb here, so don't even know the name of it, just have two beautiful bushes in my house that bloom year after year. The flowers make the prettiest arrangements specially in sophy aramburo pottery pieces :)
Update- the name is hydrangea... I knew that.

patterns
I'm very much into patterns and lines and backgrounds... and more lines. I like them so much that I've decided to take the patterned backgrounds from my 3d illustrations and have them printed on fabric. I love to sew and haven't had the time to pedal away lately, so this will give me a chance to do that. A little variety in the projects is always good, and new ideas for fabric thingys are buzzing about in my head.
I'm excited to have received my first fabric swatch from Spoonflower- a fabric printing company out of Durham, NC - they're great!

Sweet little angel gave it a brave fight and he's now resting in peace watching over his mommy. I'm giving this illustration to a friend, hope she likes it :) it's almost finished, just need to assemble it... decided not to use the clouds and gave him a booty cover-upper and a little cape instead. For now here's the work in progress.

If you like to doodle and your doodles are kind of cool-- or not, the sketchbook project sounds very interesting.
You sign up by October 31, pay $25 and they send you a sketchbook, you pick a theme and doodle away until January 15, 2011. People from all over the world can enter and the sketchbooks go on tour exhibits at galleries and museums accross the country in March 2011. After the tour, all sketchbooks enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

little h
The story of hachecita.-
While sitting in the car on our way to DC back in June, I started thinking and realized that the letter "h" is a hard working multitasking mama. The more I thought and thought (there was nothing else to do) I came to two theories for the busy life of this letter.
Theory 1 is that she's a bad bad little thing because she (yeah, it’s a girl) is either a lazy slacker sleeping all day not making a sound, or she is influencing and corrupting letters around her into acting and sounding different and not letting them be themselves.
Theory 2, she's just a very busy working girl that gets pulled in every direction and has a hard time saying no when help is needed. Sometimes she's there just for moral support and other times she has to step in to help her friends express themselves.
After we arrived and checked into the hotel we went to dinner, it was my brother's birthday so we had to celebrate. I barely drink anything but an occasional beer or a pina colada-my favorite, I'd much rather have a yummy dessert than a medicine tasting alcoholic beverage. Half way down my one beer I'm already feeling it, so the conclusion to my letter drama came to an end. It had to be theory No.2, she's just a very good girl that needs a break and nobody should use and abuse her so much.
Since that day I'm very fond of my "little h" and thought I could give her the day off today, Sunday - what better day to do that! From now on Sundays little hache will have fun days to relax or maybe travel places...

3D illustration
Finally framed the night Atlanta illustration, couldn't decide how or what to frame it with. I like how it turned out and I'm not sure if I'll list it.
I painted the different pieces in acrylics on board and then assembled it to get the three dimensional effect. I constructed the paper frame out of patterned double sided archival card stock and then matted with white board. It all sits inside a 10x10" shadowbox frame.
This illustration was used in a series of posters for City League International horse shows in 2009.

fruits n veggies
Home alone for the weekend, I decided not to go to the horse show because I have way tooo much to do. I'm very exited about my projects and need all the time I can have to get them going. Made some time to play with three apples and an orange...
Watched part of What about Bob -had never seen it before, pretty funny- while having a somewhat healthy lunch: chicken with mixed corn, peas, tomatoes and cheese, then some fresh cherries.

honeysuckle
New item in the shop: original collage "honeysuckle" - one of a series of three.
The three cut paper illustrations were made to inspire a clean green healthy earthy mood and were used for a great cause: invitations for the Green Gate Fund gala, a series of cancer benefit events held at City League International horse shows. I wanted to use recycled materials so I chose old magazines. I researched different flowers and plants and found these beautiful flowers that each have a medicinal purpose. I also wanted to keep it sort of feminine because the Fund started out mainly as a breast cancer outreach to help women with preventative screenings.
